Artist's Statement
I grew up in Hong Kong. Living there so long gave me an appreciation of Asian Art, ceramics in particular and a deeper understanding of the culture in which I was immersed. My first opportunity in clay was in High School, I had a great teacher that encouraged me and started me on the path of clay. I returned to the US to attend college, where I earned a BA in Ceramics from Lewis and Clark College in 1991.
The last 20 years has been a blend of beer and pottery. Not a bad mix really, but in 2008 it was time to approach starting a full time pottery. My work has shown in galleries around Oregon, Arizona, and Colorado, and I have been a member of numerous pottery and artist organizations: the Oregon Potters Association, Castle Clay Cooperative of Denver, 12 Potters of Northern Colorado, and the Salida Artists Group.
My recent work has focused on completing the construction of two gas kilns and filling them with pots to fire. The first firing of the "jigsaw kiln" was unloaded on June 28th, just in time for ArtWalk this year.
